Year-End Reading Roundup 2024

Year-End Reading Roundup 2024

Welcome to my year-end roundup of all the books I devoured this year. My "reading era" finally came alive in 2024, with a mix of fairy smut, mysteries, and some emotional rollercoasters that left me in book hangovers. If you're here for ratings, tea, and tips for hitting your reading stride, buckle up—this blog is for you!

The Midnight Feast

The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lucy Foley’s knack for suspense shines, but this wasn’t quite as memorable as The Guest List. Still, the eerie ambiance kept me hooked.

First Lie Wins

First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston

⭐⭐⭐⭐
A thrilling page-turner with twists I didn't see coming. Think Gone Girl, but with its own unique flavor.

A Court of Silver Flames (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #4)

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nesta’s character arc gave A Court of Thorns and Roses a whole new edge. So spicy, so fierce, and honestly, my favorite of the series.

Verity

Verity by Colleen Hoover

⭐⭐⭐
Chaotic, unhinged, and slightly overhyped. It’s great for a suspenseful binge, but I wanted more depth from the ending.

Circe

Circe by Madeline Miller

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Beautifully written and dripping with mythology. Circe’s tale feels both empowering and heartbreaking.

Under the Whispering Door

Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune

⭐⭐⭐⭐
This whimsical afterlife story packed a lot of heart. If The House in the Cerulean Sea made you sob, grab tissues.

The House in the Cerulean Sea (Cerulean Chronicles, #1)

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

⭐⭐⭐⭐
An absolutely delightful found-family story with cozy vibes and magical charm.

The Lost Apothecary

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner

⭐⭐⭐
Historical intrigue meets modern-day sleuthing. Entertaining but didn’t leave a lasting impression.

The Book of Doors

The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown

⭐⭐⭐
A fascinating premise, but the pacing made it a slower read for me.

Remarkably Bright Creatures

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Charming and heartfelt. The octopus perspective is bizarre but somehow works.

**AUDIOBOOK ONLY

Happy Place

Happy Place by Emily Henry

⭐⭐⭐
Emily Henry writes chemistry like no other, but this one wasn’t quite Beach Read for me.

Lessons in Chemistry

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Elizabeth Zott’s feminist journey in 1960s academia hit all the right notes. Highly recommend.

A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1)

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

⭐⭐⭐⭐
A brilliant fantasy with mesmerizing world-building. Kell and Lila are iconic.

The Unhoneymooners (Unhoneymooners, #1)

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Light, funny, and swoon-worthy. A perfect beach read that had me cackling.

Book Lovers

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

⭐⭐⭐⭐
The meta bookworm jokes made me giggle, but the romance didn’t quite sweep me away.

A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3)

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A high-stakes fantasy with jaw-dropping twists. Feyre and Rhysand continue to deliver.

The Guest List

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

⭐⭐⭐
The multiple POVs worked, but it dragged in spots. Still, the suspense was solid.

Murder on the Orient Express (Hercule Poirot, #10)

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A classic that never gets old. Poirot’s brilliance made this a standout reread.

How to Solve Your Own Murder (Castle Knoll Files, #1)

How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin

⭐⭐⭐
Unique concept, but I found myself wanting a bit more depth in execution.

The Paris Apartment

The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley

⭐⭐⭐⭐
This felt like a Parisian version of The Guest List—tense, atmospheric, and layered with secrets.

Yellowface

Yellowface by R.F. Kuang

⭐⭐⭐
Thought-provoking, though the pacing wasn’t my favorite and frankly a bit overhyped.

The Golden Spoon

The Golden Spoon by Jessa Maxwell

⭐⭐⭐
A mystery-meets-Bake-Off mashup. Fun but felt a little underbaked (pun intended).

Tips That Helped Me Enter My Reading Era

Ready to slay your reading goals next year? Here's how I stayed on track in 2024:

1. Find Your Niche/Genre & Don't Judge Yourself

Rom-com, murder mystery, or fairy smut—there’s no wrong choice. Read what excites you, not what you should read.

2. Set Small Daily Goals

Ten pages before bed or 15 minutes during lunch adds up fast. Consistency is key!

3. Audiobooks

Audiobooks made commutes and cleaning sprees more enjoyable. (Pro tip: speed it up to 1.5x for a quicker listen or read-along!)

4. Libby App

If you’re not borrowing eBooks from your library, you’re missing out. Libby is free and full of hidden gems.

5. BookTok

TikTok is the place for recommendations. I found some of my favorites this year thanks to viral recs.

6. Join a Book Club

Accountability makes a difference. I joined an online book club, and discussing reads kept me motivated.

7. Create a Cozy Reading Routine

Think candles, tea, a blanket, and uninterrupted time. Romanticize your reading nook to make it irresistible.

Final Thoughts

2024 was the year of reading for me, and I couldn’t be more proud of my bookshelf. Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned reader, I hope these rankings and tips inspire you to dive into your next read.
